YMCA Camp Sloper will be holding an open house on Saturday, May 7 .
For kids who are considering Sloper as their day camp destination this summer, the open house will provide the opportunity to meet camp staff, tour the grounds, and find out about all things summer camp. Staff will be on hand to answer questions from parents, and registration for camp will be available on site.
“Spring is finally here and we have been very busy getting the property into shape for our spring and summer programs,” said new camp director Shane Altwies in a press release.
According to Altweis, the camp is welcoming an exciting new addition this year –the Meade Family Library.
“Each year we make improvements and additions to the programs and facilities to keep things fresh and stay current with the trends,” Altwies said in the release. “This will be a place where our campers can learn and discover through literature in our summer program.”
While some specialty camp programs are already full, registration is still open for all traditional camp programs.
Space is still available in several specialty programs, including cheer and dance, circus, farming, glee, photography, and track and field camps. There are also still openings in the Wanderers program, for 3 to 5 year old campers. The Wanderers meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays for one week.
Chief of Operations Mark Pooler has two children that attended the Wanderers program. “The Wanderers program is a great introduction to what camp is all about,” he said in the press release. “It is an age-appropriate program for our youngest campers and gives them a taste of what’s to come in future years at camp.”
All other camp programs are offered in four two-week sessions, from June 27 to Aug. 19. Programs run Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are open to children ages 3 to 15 years old who are residents of Southington, Cheshire, Berlin, Kensington, and New Britain.
Additional open houses will take place on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and June 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
