Robert E. Okenquist, 92, of Southington, died on Monday, April 18.

Robert E. Okenquist, 2 days shy of 93, of Southington, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Summit of Plantsville.  He had been the loving husband of Mary (Zakrewski) Okenquist for 67 years.

Robert was born on April 20, 1923 in Plainville, CT and had been a longtime Southington resident.

He worked at the former Allied Control and Gould Electronics, retiring after over 50 years of service. Robert was a fantastic softball player and at one time was recognized as one of the best first base men in the state of Connecticut. He also loved playing golf at the Southington Country Club and planting in his garden.

In addition to his wife Mary, Bob is survived by his daughter Sharon Okenquist, his granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Caroline Okenquist Lenz, both of South Salem, NY, his lifelong best friend, Peter Procko and his wife Edith of Plainville and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert G. Okenquist and 11 siblings.
