Two arrested after motor vehicle stop

The Southington Police Department arrested Emani Edwards, 19, of Wethersfield, and Brian Brown, 26, of Ellington, at approximately 11:10a.m. on April 12.

An SPD officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Main St. for a motor vehicle violation. Edwards was operating the vehicle, and Brown was a passenger.

During the course of the stop, Brown gave officers a false name and birth date. While being patted down, officers found a drug syringe on his person.

As Brown was being detained, Edwards exited the vehicle, ignored orders to stay in the vehicle and began to approach the officer who was taking Brown into custody.Edwards physically resisted being taken into custody and she had to be physically restrained to prevent her from interfering with the officers. As Edwards was being taken into custody, an open pocketknife was found on the ground next to her. Edwards told officers the knife fell out of her pocket. No injuries were reported.

Edwards was charged with Interfering with an officer, failure to renew registration, failure to carry insurance ID cards, possession of marijuana less than one-half ounce, carrying a dangerous weapon, and weapons in a motor vehicle.

While in custody, Brown gave Officers his correct name and birthdate. He was charged with interfering with an officer, criminal impersonation, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Five failure to appear warrants issued by several courts in the state were served on Brown. Bonds on the warrants totaled $64,000.00.

Edwards and Brown were each held on a $5,000 cash surety bond and are scheduled to appear in Bristol Court on April 13.
