William  Haeffner, 83, of Southington, beloved husband of Tracie Morelli,  passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 8th at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He was born in Germany on Jan. 21, 1933, the son of the late Alfon and Sophy (Lindenfelser) Haeffner.

William, known as “Coach”, dedicated much of his time and was an inspiration to many young athletes in the town of Southington.  He was one of the founders of Northern Little League Baseball and the Southington Soccer League Association.  William received many awards in appreciation to his contributions to sports for the town of Southington; Outstanding Service to Little League 1969-1975,  Northern Little League Team Sportsmanship award 1974, Northern Little League Vice-President Senior Division 1979, Northern little League President Award 1980, Youth Soccer Coach Award 1980-1983, Youth Soccer President’s Appreciation Award 1983, and Full Recognition of the Efforts and Inspiration of the Founders of the Southington Youth Soccer League Award in 2000. Besides dedicating his time to the town of Southington, William was an advocate of being a hard worker.  He was a tradesman as a tool and die maker and recently retired in December 2015 from Camlock Systems.  Prior to his retirement, William worked at Lori Lock for 37 years, Delson Hinge, and Kaba High Security Locks.

In addition to his loving wife and best friend, Tracie, of 23 years, he leaves behind his son James and his wife Susan Haeffner of Norton, MA,  grandchildren;  Michael Haeffner, Jessica Beglin and husband Michael, Father-in Law; John Morelli, Brother; Deiter Haeffner and wife Erica, Godchild Sarah Bourgoin, several sisters and brothers-in-law; Paula Bourgoin, Edmund Morelli, Mary Jo Bourgoin and husband  Michael, Gerri Beach, John Paul Morelli and wife Cathy, Amelia Marchesi and husband Gary, Carmella Lukawecki and husband Michael, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his twin brother Heinz Haeffner and mother-in-law Mary Morelli.

William was such a wonderful, loving, respectful husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law, Godfather, and uncle, who loved his family dearly.  He loved to travel, spend time with his family, and sports, especially the UConn Huskies. William will be missed greatly, along with his smile, laughter, and fun sense of humor. 

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders St. Southington.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
