Ryan Rogers announced his candidacy for the 16th district at a recent gathering at Southington’s town hall.

In a recent gathering of family, friends, and supporters at the Southington Town Hall, Ryan Rogers of Southington announced his candidacy for the state senate in the 16th district, which includes the communities of Cheshire, Prospect, Southington, Waterbury, and Wolcott.

“I feel the people of the 16th State Senate district deserve real representation that puts people over politics and good policy over ideology in order to best serve the interests of the residents in this district,”

he said in a press release.

Rogers, a Democrat, currently serves on the Southington Zoning Board of Appeals, as well as in the Connecticut Air National Guard. He said that he will be a strong, progressive voice in Hartford.

“I will bring a fresh voice and new vision that tackles the real issues facing working families in our district,” he said in the release. “As your state senator, I will work hard to restore a seat at the table for all the towns in our district.”

Rogers said that the state is at a crossroads, and Southington needs leaders who bring new ideas and a change in the status quo.

“We need leadership, accountability, and action in the state legislature,” he said in the release. “I will work with my future colleagues to create a more stable and sustainable budget, to ensure everyone has paid family leave when they need it, work for more affordable college tuition for our young adults.”

In his press release, Rogers said that these problems are not being addressed at the state level.

“My campaign will be centered on an open and honest discussion of these and other issues residents face each day and providing voters with a real alternative to the status quo this November,” he said in the release.

Rogers is a graduate of Southington High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He holds a BA degree from Central Connecticut State University and currently attends Quinnipiac University School of Law. He lives in Southington with his wife and 10 month old daughter.
