Lockdown lifted at Southington schools

Plantsville Elementary Schoolis one of four public schools, along with the Municipal Center and Southington Catholic School that have been placed on secure status.

NOTE: Secure school status has been lifted at approximately 12:25 p.m.

As of 11:30 a.m., a number of Southington schools are still in secure school mode as a precaution on the recommendation of the Southington Police. The schools were put into secure status this morning when police announced that there was a person of interest in the Plantsville area.

Schools affected are Plantsville Elementary, Derynoski Elementary, Alta, Kennedy Middle School and the Municipal Center.

Classes will continue in the buildings on their normal schedules, but the buildings remain locked and no one will be admitted or allowed to leave until SPD lifts the secure school status.

Southington Superintendent of Schools Timothy Connellan is continuing to issue updates until the matter is resolve.

Southington Catholic School is also reported as secured status.
