A pair of locals have been arrested by Southington police after two shoplifting incidents at Stop & Shop at 505 North Main St.
Police were called to the store just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16 after receiving a report of a shoplifter in custody. During the investigation, officers identified a second shoplifting incident earlier in the day involving the same suspect. Two people were found to have been working together in both incidents.
The investigation showed that, at approximately 2 p.m., Steven Galipeau, 32, of Southington, entered the store and selected merchandise from the shelves before leaving the store without paying. The items were allegedly sold in Hartford later in the day. Police identified Aimee Sycz, 28, of Southington, waiting for Galipeau in a vehicle in the parking lot.
The stolen items were identified as three 12-packs of Red Bull (valued at $21.59 each) and four 4-packs of Red Bull (valued at $8.19 each). The total value of items stolen was $97.53.
At approximately, 8:02 p.m., the couple returned. This time, Sycz entered Stop & Shop while Galipeau waited in the car. Sycz selected merchandise from the shelves and left the store without paying. At this point Sycz was stopped by Store Security, and the investigation was initiated.
During the theft at 8:02 pm incident, the following items were stolen: three 12-packs of Red Bull ($21.59 each), five 4-packs of Red Bull ($8.19 each), one Gatorade ($1.59), and one 25-ounce can of Bud Light ($2.54). The total value of items stolen was $109.85.
Sycz and Galipeau were each issued a misdemeanor summons, and both were charged with two counts of sixth degree larceny, and two counts of conspiracy to commit sixth degree larceny. They were released on $500 bonds and are scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Feb. 29, 2016.
