The Lady Knights (14-3) suffered back-to-back losses, but ended their two-game skid with a six-point win, 45-39, at Simsbury (8-9) on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The Knights took a 14-10 lead by the end of the first and extended their lead to nine by halftime, 27-18. The Trojans fought their way back, cutting the Knights’ lead to four by the end of the third quarter, 33-29.
Southington sank eight of their 13 foul shots in the fourth quarter to out-score the Trojans, 12-10, down the stretch.
Janette Wadolowski (3 steals) anchored the Knights with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Wadolowski (4 steals) was right behind with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Maggie Meehan contributed four points and three assists.
Tara White led the Trojans with nine points.
The Knights suffered their third loss of the season by a point, 52-51, to Conard (15-2) at home on Tuesday. Conard is currently ranked fourth in Class LL.
The Chieftains held a three-point lead, 14-11, at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to four, 31-27, by the second half. The Knights battled back and came within a point by the end of the third quarter, 40-39.
After a seesaw first half of the fourth quarter, the Chieftains sunk two free throws to go up by one with 25.7 seconds remaining in the game. The Knights turned the ball over on their next possession, but had a second chance after the Chieftains gave the ball right back to the Knights on an inbounds pass from half court that went off the fingers of a Conard player out of bounds.
With 5.8 seconds left, the Knights dribbled the ball past half court on the inbounds and had a good look for a last-second three-pointer. But a shot off the side of the rim ended the game.
Janette Wadolowski paced the Knights with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Meehan contributed 15 points and Minkiewicz (3 assists) added eight points and six rebounds. Natalie Wadolowski grabbed 14 rebounds.
Southington is currently ninth in the CIAC Class LL rankings and first (6-2) in the Blue Division of the CCC Central.
The Knights have three regular season games remaining on their schedule and will fight for better seeding in the tournament when they host Bulkeley (1-14) on Tuesday, Feb. 9 and travel to Avon (8-8) on Thursday, Feb. 11.
