PAVERS FOR POSTERITY (BLUE KNIGHT BRICKS)—The Turf Committee is offering an opportunity to purchase bricks to help defray costs for the artificial turf field at Southington High School. Bricks cost $125 and can be engraved with three lines of type (14 characters per line). Bricks will be displayed as part of a walkway and patio at the entrance to the turf field complex. Bricks can be purchased at the Southington Chamber of Commerce, the Parks & Recreation Department, or at the Southington High School Athletic Department.

COMMUNITY ICE RINK—The Southington Community Ice Rink is located off of Mill Street (off Main St./Route 10). Free parking is available on Mill Street in the lot adjacent to the Linear Trail. A sign will be posted at the rink that will indicate whether it is open or closed to public use due to weather and/or the condition of the ice itself. General Hours of Permitted Use: Sundays-Thursdays, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. or Fridays and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Hours for Hockey (no recreational skating): Wednesdays, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. or Saturdays, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Hours for Recreational Skating (no hockey): Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. or Wednesdays, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., or Fridays, 8 a.m.-10 p.m., or Saturdays, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5 p.m.-10 p.m.

YOUTH SOCCER LATE REGISTRATION (SPRING)—Saturday, Jan. 30, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Recreation Park Field House, Maxwell Noble Dr., Plantsville. Final registration for the spring program. The Academy program is open to players 6 to 8 years old (born between Aug. 1, 2007 and July 31, 2010). Cost is $120 per player, and includes a soccer club t-shirt. The Travel Program is open to players 9 to 19 years old (born between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 2007). Cost is $225 per player. More info and forms available at

TOWN-WIDE LL/ GIRLS SOFTBALL REGISTRATION—Saturday, Feb. 6, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Southington High School cafeteria. Registration is for Southington residents. The minimum age to participate is 5 years old as of Dec. 31, 2016. Fees vary by league. Cash or check only. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate (certified copy with raised seal) and three different forms of proof of residency.

NORTHERN LITTLE LEAGUE REGISTRATION—Saturday, Feb. 6, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Southington High School cafeteria. (Returning players can register online at Open to Southington residents ages 5 and above as of Aug. 31, 2011. A birth certificate with raised seal must be presented at the time of registration, along with proof of address. Cost is $30 (Challengers/special needs), $90 (ages 5-7), $125 (ages 8-9), $140 (ages 10-12), and $150 (ages 13-18). Family discounts apply for more than two children.

ADULT BEGINNER’S YOGA CLASSES—Tuesdays, March 1 to May 3, 6:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m., in the Strong Elementary School gym. Cost is $50, and class size is limited. Pre-registration and payment is required. Program details and online forms are available at

NIA TECHNIQUE FITNESS CLASSES—Thursdays, March 3 to May 5, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., in the Strong Elementary School community room. Cost is $70. Nia classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music using movements from the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Pre-registration and payment is required. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM—Tuesdays, March 15 to May 17, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. (grades 3-6) or 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. (grades 7-8), in the Derynoski Elementary School gym. The program is open to Southington residents only. Cost is $40 (grades 3-6) or $45 (grades 7-8). Registration is held on a first come, first served basis, and space is extremely limited. Payment is due at registration. All trips are non-smoking and non-alcoholic. Insurance is available. Trips depart from the commuter lot in commuter lot in Cheshire on Route 10, close to the I-691. Checks should be made payable to Town of Southington. Contact the Parks & Rec Dept at (860) 276-6219.

NASCAR RACING AT DOVER DOWNS—June 4 to June 5. Cost per person is $504 (single), $394 (double), $384 (triple or quad), $274 (child with 2 adults). Includes round-trip motor coach, one night at the Sheraton Suites in Wilmington, DE, one full American breakfast, ticket to the Nationwide Series Race and the AAA 400 Race. A tour director will accompany this trip.

NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME (COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.)—Saturday, July 23. Cost is $99 per person ($88 for children 12 and under). Includes round-trip motor coach transportation, admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, leisure time on Main Street in Cooperstown. A Tour Director will accompany this trip.

SARATOGA RACE COURSE—Saturday, Aug. 6. Cost is $88. Includes round-trip motor coach transportation, admission with reserved grandstand seating, hot dog, soda, and program. A Tour Director will accompany this trip.

OSTEOPOROSIS AND OSTEOPENIA FITNESS CLASSES—Southington Community YMCA is offering classes for people with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia. Classes are for all fitness levels and help improve balance, build strength, and lengthen the spine. Classes follow the Meeks Method, a safe and effective method which emphasizes the reversal of postural change. YMCA trainers work in conjunction with Community Physical Therapy. PRESCHOOL & YOUTH GYMNASTICS—For children ages 16 months and up in a state-of-the-art facility located at 26 Putnam Place, Plantsville. The programs are designed to enhance the child’s strength, flexibility, hand eye coordination, and social and listening skills. The YMCA also offers a competitive gymnastics program where participants compete in YMCA and USAG meets.YMCA instructors encourage and support children and serve as positive role models. SHS INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY & SENIOR GOLD CARD PASSES—Available at the SHS Athletic office, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Family passes for regular season contests cost $110 and includes immediate family members for boys/girls volleyball, football with the exception of the Thanksgiving game, boys/girls basketball, wrestling, and night baseball. Individual passes cost $45 ($30 for students). Senior gold cards are free for Southington residents ages 62 and over and are good for all regular season home games.
