YMCA Camp Sloper will open priority registration for last year’s campers and full members of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA. Online registration for the annual day camp will begin on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 8 a.m. at www.ymcacampsloper.org. In-person registration will not be accepted during the early bird period.

YMCA officials encourage families to register early for specialty camps or the Sloperian program for children entering kindergarten or first grade. Full membership and/or attendance at last year’s camp will be verified before priority registrations are confirmed.

Full registration will begin on Sunday, Jan. 31.

Membership is not required to attend YMCA Camp Sloper. Every child who is registered is considered a program member. Campers with full memberships will receive an additional $50 discount per session.

“This will be our 67th year of camping at YMCA Camp Sloper and we are very excited about the 2016 day camp season,” said first-year camp director Shane Altwies in a YMCA press release. “Our camp families have already started to call and email us with questions about camp registration. Many families try to be the first campers to register.”

YMCA Camp Sloper serves the towns of Southington, Cheshire, Berlin-Kensington and New Britain, and even draws campers from other states and overseas.

“Full members and last year’s campers who are interested in specialty camps should take advantage of the early bird online registration day to secure a spot in the camp program of their choice. Those tend to be the ones that fill up first,” Altwies said in the release. “Also, our Sloperian program for campers entering kindergartena and first grade filled up every session last summer.  If you have a child in that age group, you will want to register early. Many of the parents I’ve talked to plan to register them the first day.”

The 2016 season will feature some new specialty camp programs, including “Cardboard Camp” for children entering grades 3-5, and “Pinspiration Camp” for those entering grades 6-9.
