Some smiles on ice with your favorite Disney characters

In terms of entertainment for children, you can’t go wrong with anything Disney.

Characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse—and films like “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin”—will bring a smile to a child’s face faster than the words, “Let’s go get some ice cream.”

So, for parents who want to treat their kids, they can’t go wrong with “Disney On Ice presents Let’s Celebrate!” at the XL Center through Sunday.

The ice skating performance asks a simple question that will delight the kids (and adults).

What kind of celebrations can we have? And who from the Disney cast of characters can we invite.

So, we have an “Unbirthday Party” with the characters from “Alice in Wonderland.” We have a Halloween party with some of Disney’s greatest villains overseen by Jack Skellington of “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” And we have a Valentine’s Party with the greatest romantic couples in the Disney family.

And so on and so on.

If you have a favorite Disney character (other than the characters from “Frozen,” who were absent this time around), “Let’s Celebrate” gives them a moment to shine.

All of the ice choreography was fun and demonstrated the skaters’ skills at performing solos, duets, and group routines. There was definitely plenty of choreography to bring a smile to the grown-ups face.

Probably one of the most exciting moments came during the Hawaiian luau number. The skaters all came out with actual torches and moved as one as they partied it up Hawaiian style. And then one of the dancers skated with a torch in the center of a ring of fire on the ice. It was unexpected and done well.

The show moved very quickly to keep the children’s attention. (The show started at 7 and we were out of there by 9 p.m. even with an intermission.) From where I sat, I did not see a single fidgety child. In fact, most were busy trying to capture the attention of their favorite characters on ice as they looked the children’s directions.

“Let’s Celebrate” was great fun for the entire family and is well worth a trip to Hartford before it closes this weekend.

The child in me gives “Disney on Ice presents Let’s Celebrate!” four out of four stars.

The remaining performances are Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Tickets for “Disney On Ice Presents Let’s Celebrate” start at $15 for select performances.

Tickets are available at or by visiting the XL Center Box Office.
