The Town Council approved nearly $1 million in spending for the purchase of development rights on the Hawk’s Landing Country Club property.
In a 6-2 vote, Republicans supported a $990, 000 purchase to avoid future residential development in the area.
The purchase of the development rights will allow the council to prevent a 25-property lot subdivision, or any development that is not an extension of the golf course.
Democratic councilors John Barry and Christopher Palmieri voted against the spending, with Councilor Dawn Miceli abstaining from the vote.
We will discuss the issue in greater detail in next week’s edition.
