The YMCA Leaders Club is seeking new members for their 2015-2016 season.

Welcoming all Southington residents in sixth to eighth grade, the Leaders Club is a program for students who hope to make a difference in their community.

Meeting weekly to plan volunteer events and organize fundraisers, the club teaches teens leadership skills, planning strategies, and how to seek service opportunities in their community.

Last year, the club participated in a volunteer cleanup day at YMCA Camp Sloper, and raised more than $1,500 for the Walk like MADD event in Cheshire.

This year, the club will be returning to an initiative called “The Legacy Project” – a large scale project that “is intended to have positive long-term effects for the teens, local agencies, and the community.”

“YMCA Leaders Club is filled with teens that are looking to reach out and make a difference in Southington.” said Teen Director Adam Dubois, who has been advising the club for four years.

Any Southington resident in middle school is welcome to join the club, and YMCA membership is not required.

Meetings are held weekly on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and service hours can be used as volunteer hours toward church, school, or National Junior Honor Society requirements.

Interested teens can register at the front desk of the Southington Community YMCA

or can contact Dubois for more information, at (860)426-9530 or adubois@sccymca.org.
