State Democrats welcomed today’s state Department of Labor report that said Connecticut’s private sector increased job growth by 5,200 jobs last month. State Rep. David Zoni said he was pleased with the report.
“While there is more that we must continue to do to help create jobs for people willing to work, let’s welcome this latest report,” Zoni said in a press release. “The fact that our unemployment rate is now 5.1 percent, the lowest since March 2008, is an important development.”
According to the Labor Department, the report also shows Connecticut has recovered 113,400 of the 111,600 jobs that were lost during the Great Recession, bringing its recovery rate to 101.6 percent.
“We recently voted to lower targeted business taxes to encourage General Electric and other Connecticut businesses to grow here in our state,” Zoni said in the release. “The Labor Department’s job report is good news, and while job numbers go up or down in a given month, hopefully, we will continue to add private sector jobs to the workforce.”
