Police were called to Hair Expo, 410 Main St., in Southington at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 on a report of a vehicle evading an accident after striking the building.
The investigation determined that a 1997 Acura, operated by Tyrone Phoenix, was traveling north on Main Street when he veered off the road and struck the building. After the impact, the vehicle continued north on Main Street and was later located by officers in the parking lot near the Southington library.
The Main Street building sustained heavy damage as a result of the accident. The vehicle was found to be unregistered, uninsured and that Phoenix did not have a valid license.
The Southington Fire Department and the Town of Southington building officials responded to the scene.
Tyrone Phoenix, 23, of Waterbury, was issued a misdemeanor summons and charged with failure to drive right, evading responsibility, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to insure the motor vehicle, and operatin without a license.
He was released with an appearance date in court on Monday, Dec. 21.
