To the editor:

This past Monday, Nov. 23, at the Southington Town Council meeting, the chairman of the town council unceremoniously eliminated Chris Palmieri from the Apple Harvest Festival Committee.

Palmieri has been co-chairman for the past two years and had been chairman eight years previously. He has brought the festival from an event which had lost money to one that is now financially self-sustaining and a popular fall destination for people from all over New England.

The reason for this decision, as was stated, is that new people are needed for new ideas. Two people were added to the committee. One was a past member—so much for new people and new ideas.

Now all seven members are Republicans. The Apple Harvest Festival Committee was set up 12 years ago to be non-partisan. So much for that. Those of us who are involved in the community know how hard Chris works to better the town of Southington. It is a shame that one individual seeks to keep him from doing a job that he does so well.
