To the editor:

On Veterans Day, I stopped at Price Chopper on Queen Street to purchase a few grocery items and was wearing my U.S. Air Force baseball cap. As I moved forward in the checkout line to give my Advantage Card to the cashier, the woman in line behind me asked the cashier to put my groceries on her card.

I was stunned and asked her, “Why would you do that?”

She replied, “To give back a little to me for giving so much to her and our country.” All she wanted was a hug (I gave her three).

Unfortunately, I did not get the woman’s name, though I suspect she wouldn’t have wanted me to have it. This is one of the nicest things that has happened to me in my 70-plus years of life.
