Southington’s Town Green will light up for the holiday season on Friday, Dec. 4, and one lucky child from Southington will flip the switch for this year’s holiday light display.

The Southington Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its third annual “Official Switch Flipper” contest to select a local child to flip the switch that will light up the green and kick off the holiday season.

All Southington residents ages 3 to 10-years-old will be eligible for the contest.

On Dec. 1 one lucky winner will be chosen to do the honors. The winner will be chosen in a random drawing and contacted by phone.

Applications will be accepted online until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30. Entrants can submit their applications online by visiting http://southington.org/holidaylights.

The lighting ceremony will be the centerpiece for “Hospitality Night,” sponsored by the Merchants of Downtown Southington. The event is free to the public, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the town green, and will feature Touch-A-Truck, along with a scheduled visit from Santa Claus and his elves.

The holiday display and tree lighting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
