To the editor:
The Southington High School Blue Knights cheerleaders are participating in the “Cheer for Dana-Farber” event this fall. Cheer for Dana-Farber is a program dedicated to raising money to support cancer research and treatment.
For the next two months, the SHS cheerleaders, as well as other cheerleading teams across New England, will participate in numerous fundraising opportunities. Each team that raises $1,000 or more will be entered to win the Grand Prize—a chance to perform prior to a New England Patriots home game.
The SHS cheerleaders are reaching out to the Southington community for support of Dana-Farber’s mission.
One way for community members to support the cause is through a website dedicated to the Cheer for Dana-Farber program (www.cheerfordanafarber.org). Community members can find Southington Blue Knights Cheerleaders by looking in “participating teams.” The link will go directly to Southington Blue Knights Cheerleader’s page. To donate, click on the name of a specific cheerleader or on the general donation link for the SHS cheerleading team.
Another way community members may support the Cheer for Dana-Farber cause is to attend Blue Knight varsity and JV football games to donate in person. Donations can be made at the Dana-Farber table next to the popcorn station and in the stands as the cheerleaders circulate during the second quarter.
In addition, the cheerleaders are raffling a nice warm knot blanket for $5 per ticket. The winner will be selected and announced at the Nov. 6 game. The winner does not need to be present to win.
Upcoming varsity home game begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25, Oct. 30, and Nov. 6 (Senior Night). Upcoming junior varsity contests begin at 10 a.m. on Sept 26, Oct. 31, and Nov. 7. All proceeds go directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The SHS cheerleaders are grateful for the continued support of the entire Southington community.
