The girls swimming and diving team (2-0) just edged out E.O. Smith (1-1), 91-87, in their opening meet of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at the Mansfield Community Center. The Lady Knights picked up right where they left off and had outstanding performances across the board.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Jess Piotrowski, Hannah Olsen, Kerry Buchanan, and Olivia Fournier took first (1:51.84), as well as the 400 freestyle relay team of Buchanan, Piotrowski, Evelyn Holbrook, and Allison Schroeder (4:19.84).
Schroeder was also a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:31.41) and 100 fly (1:10.65), while Holbrook took first in the 100 backstroke (1:13.40).
A few days later, the Knights were back in the pool with a 92-73 win over Manchester (1-1).
The 200 medley relay team of Schroeder, Bethany Greenlaw, Sam Sagnella, and Buchanan (2:08.05), the 200 freestyle relay team of Piotrowski, Olsen, Julia Mularczyk, and Fournier (1:53.04), and the 400 Free Relay team of Fournier, Buchanan, Piotrowski, and Schroeder took first (4:14.22).
Fournier was also a double winner in the 200 freestyle (2:05.24) and 100 freestyle (56.36). Schroeder was again a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:34.28), and this time in the 100 backstroke (1:09.06). Sagnella took first in the 100 fly (1:11.59), Buchanan took first in the 500 freestyle (6:05.26), and Greenlaw took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.38).
The Knights will look to keep their success afloat with a meet against Plainville on Friday, Sept. 25 at Plainville High School and a home meet against Rocky Hill (0-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Southington YMCA.
