NEW HAVEN – Kunal Kataria and his brother, Rohan Kataria made it as far as the third round of the Class LL Boys Tennis Tournament in doubles, making it the farthest that any Southington boys’ tennis player(s) have advanced in the tournament under Southington coach Tony Mauro.
The second round of the doubles tournament continued on Monday, June 1 at the University of Yale in New Haven. The No.16-seed Katarias defeated Cheshire’s Abdullah Choudhry-David Light in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the third round, the Katarias were defeated by No.2-seed Josh Moskovitz-Max Zimmerman of Staples in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. “They worked well together in the tournament,” said Southington coach Tony Mauro. “They battled nicely and did well. They’re very competitive kids. Rohan is coming back for next season and we are looking forward to that. Kunal is an intelligent kid and will do well. I’m looking forward to him continuing on the feeder program.”
