PAVERS FOR POSTERITY (BLUE KNIGHT BRICKS)—The Turf Committee is offering an opportunity to purchase bricks to help defray costs for the artificial turf field at Southington High School. Bricks cost $125 and can be engraved with three lines of type (14 characters per line). Bricks will be displayed as part of a walkway and patio at the entrance to the turf field complex. Bricks can be purchased at the Southington Chamber of Commerce, the Parks & Rec Department, or at the Southington High School Athletic Department.

BLUE KNIGHT FUTURE VOLLEYBALL STARS INDIVIDUAL SKILLS CAMP—Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26, 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., in the SHS gym. Open to girls entering grades 4-9. Lady Knight coach Rich Heitz will direct a camp that’s focused on improving skills with individual attention in small groups based on age and ability. Cost is $154. BLUE KNIGHTS GIRLS BASKETBALL CLINIC—Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26, 8:30 a.m.-noon, at the SHS gym. Lady Knight coach Mike Forgione will direct a camp that’s designed for girls entering grades 4-9. UNITED STATES GOLF CHALLENGE—Monday, June 8 at Hawks Landing CC. Two-man best ball national tournament qualifier with 30 percent of the field expected to advance. State champions advance to the national championship at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. Open division and senior division (50+). Eight flights, team handicap, gross scoring within each flight. Cost is $150 per team plus greens fees on the day of the tournament. FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH GOLF AND SOCIAL OUTING—Sunday, June 28, 1 p.m., at Hawks Landing CC. This fund raising event will help with many local charitable programs including the Southington Food Pantry, providing needed items for local youth, and sending a child to Vacation Bible School. 2015 WAYTON OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT—Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 21 at the SHS tennis courts. Proceeds benefit the Wayton Open Scholarship Fund. Cost is $15 for singles and $30 for doubles. Each player receives a tournament t-shirt, player handbook, player schedule, tennis balls, and water for every match. Prizes are awarded to 1st and 2nd place in all divisions (Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, High School Boys, High School Girls, Men’s Doubles, and Women’s Doubles). Register online at until July 5.

SOUTHINGTON ELKS GOLF TOURNAMENT—Friday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m. shotgun start, at Hawks Landing CC. Scramble format. Register by July 31. Cost is $95 per golfer and individuals or foursomes are welcome. SOUTHINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CUP CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT—Wednesday, Sept. 30, registration at 9 a.m. with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start, at Southington Country Club. Cost is $750 for a foursome. SWIMMING LESSONS (SESSION I)—Registration on Friday June 12 (for Memorial Pool) and Friday, June 19 (for Recreation Pool), 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., in the town hall’s lower level conference room. Open to Southington residents only, ages 5 and up. Child must take swim lessons at the pool for which they have registered. Proof of residency is required (a driver’s license is sufficient). Parents should bring the child’s swim card from last year, if available, and the child’s birth certificate if they are registering for the first time. Specific lesson times will be determined at registration, but all classes will be held between 10 a.m. and noon. Cost is $55 per child ($125 for 3 children or $150 for 4 children per household). TENNIS LESSONS—Registration is underway for the annual summer instructional program open to Southington residents aged 4-18. Session I: June 22-July 2. Session II: July 6-16. Session III: July 20-30. Session IV: Aug. 3-13, at the SHS tennis courts. Each two-week session runs Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. (ages 4-6); 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. (ages 6-7); 11 a.m.-noon (ages 8-9); 12:15 p.m.-1:15 p.m. (ages 10-18) with Fridays open for rain dates if needed. Cost is $65 per session, and a smaller, lightweight racquet will be provided for children aged 4-9. Class size is limited. Pre-registration and payment is required.

TENNIS MATCH PLAY—Session I: June 22-July 2. Session II: July 6-16. Session III: July 20-30. Session IV: Aug. 3-13, at the SHS tennis courts. High school students (grades 9-12) will play from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Middle school students (grades 6-8) will play from 9:45 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Open to Southington residents entering grades 6-12 in the fall. These two-week programs are for experienced tennis players to play against each other in an organized setting with guidance from the Park & Rec tennis coaches. Cost is $30 per session. Space is limited. Pre-registration and payment is required.

YANKEES VS. TIGERS (YANKEE STADIUM)—Saturday, June 20 for Old Timer’s Day at Yankee Stadium through Cost is $145 per person and includes round-trip charter bus transportation, game ticket, and a cookout before the game. All game seats are in Section 234 (left field). The bus will depart from and return to the Southington Lowe’s parking lot, 500 Executive Dr. (Exit 31 off I-84). Payment is due in full within five (5) business days to hold a reservation.

BASEBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY—Sunday, July 26. Cost is $94 (adult) and $84 (children 12 and under). Includes transportation, admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, tickets for the induction ceremony at the Clark Sports Center (1:30 pm), and leisure time. A tour director will accompany this trip.

SARATOGA RACE COURSE—Saturday, Aug. 1. Cost is $82 per person and includes transportation, admission, reserved seating, hot dog, soda, and race program.

BOSTON DUCK TOUR & FENWAY PARK—Saturday, Aug. 22. Cost is $108 per person and includes transportation, a Boston Duck Tour, tour of historic Fenway Park, and leisure time at Quincy Market. A tour director will accompany this trip.

OSTEOPOROSIS AND OSTEOPENIA FITNESS CLASSES—Southington Community YMCA is offering classes for people with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia. Classes are for all fitness levels and help improve balance, build strength, and lengthen the spine. Classes follow the Meeks Method, a safe and effective method which emphasizes the reversal of postural change. YMCA trainers work in conjunction with Community Physical Therapy. PRESCHOOL & YOUTH GYMNASTICS—For children ages 16 months and up in a state-of-the-art facility located at 26 Putnam Place, Plantsville. The programs are designed to enhance the child’s strength, flexibility, hand eye coordination, and social and listening skills. The YMCA also offers a competitive gymnastics program where participants compete in YMCA and USAG meets.YMCA instructors encourage and support children and serve as positive role models.
