The Board of Education welcomed a new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on May 14, appointing John F. Kennedy Middle School principal Steven G. Madancy.

Madancy has been the principal at JFK Middle School since July of 2012, following seven years as a principal in Milford, serving two years at Pumpkin Delight Elementary School and five years at Orange Avenue Elementary School.

Madancy holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Rhode Island College and a Master of Science in Science Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Prior to working as a principal, he taught Health and Physical Education in Wallingford Public Schools for eight years.

He is a member of several professional associations, including the New England League of Middle Schools, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Mandacy’s appointment follows the retirement of Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Learning Karen L. Smith. While looking forward to learning the scope of his new position, Mandacy said he is “equally excited to continue working on the things that Karen had started to establish.”
