The Observer welcomes Taylor Hartz as our new staff writer for Southington news.
Taylor is a 2014 Boston University College of Communication graduate with a bachelor’s in journalism, a concentration in photojournalism, and a minor in political science. She won first prize for news coverage and second prize for a picture story in the 2014 Boston Press Photographer’s Association College Contest.
“We are excited to welcome Taylor to the Southington Observer staff. She has already been providing freelance news and photographs, and this role will allow her to continue to develop relationships in our community,” said Observer editor John Goralski. “It is rare to find a recent graduate with such a diverse and accomplished resume in journalism and photography. Taylor is going to be a great addition to our newsroom. She is a very talented journalist and photographer.”
As a student, Taylor served as an intern for the Time Out Sydney program in 2013 where she was a feature, arts, and entertainment writer and photographer in Sydney, Australia.
When she returned to the United States, Taylor became a Washington Photo Correspondent in the Washington D.C. Journalism Internship Program where she served as a photo correspondent for the Cape Cod Times, and the Worcester Telegram in Massachusetts; The Day of New London; and the Portsmouth Herald in New Hampshire.
At the same time, she reported on congressional activity, policymaking, and breaking news as a Washington Correspondent for the Cape Cod Times.
Most recently, Taylor served as photo editor for the Boston University news service (2014), and at the same time, she interned with the Massachusetts State House Governor’s Press Office as a photo intern for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
