YMCA Camp Sloper open house on April 25

Comm - ASAP - Sloper Open House April 25

YMCA Camp Sloper Outdoor Center will hold their first open house of the season on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those who are interested in meeting the camp staff, taking a tour of the facility, asking questions, or registerting for the upcoming camp season. All children who attend will receive a Sloper gift.

“Spring is finally here and we have been very busy getting the property into shape for our spring and summer programs. We have a great group of staff and volunteers who dedicate time to making YMCA Camp Sloper look great for the campers and members” stated Mark Pooler, who will be the Camp Director for his 20th camp season. “Each year we make improvements and additions to the programs and facilities to keep things fresh and stay current with the trends. The exciting new addition for the 2015 season is a Tricycle Race Track for our younger campers and the West Coast Waterslide and a variety of other smaller improvements around the property.”

Enrollment for the 2015 season is off to a great start with some specialty camps already filled. The open house is a perfect opportunity for parents and children to see what camp is all about and to register for the camp programs that are still available. YMCA Camp Sloper still has some space available in all the traditional camp programs, with the exception of Sloperians which only has some space in Session 3, as well as some specialty camps:

Art Camp, Bookworm Camp, Building Block Camp, Cheer and Dance Camp, Circus Camp, Cross Country Camp, Eco Camp, Farm Camp, Fort Building, Girl Power Camp, Glee Camp, Golf Camp, Musical Theater YMCA logo (2011 - Blue and Purple)Camp East & West, Photography Camp, Sports Camp, and Track and Field Camp are just some of the great specialty camp options.

The Wanderers program for 3-5 year olds runs in one-week sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Wanderers still has openings throughout the summer.

“The Wanderers program is a great introduction to what camp is all about. It is an age-appropriate program for our youngest campers and gives them a taste of what’s to come in future years at camp,” said Pooler. “Both my kids went through this program in recent years and loved it.”

YMCA Camp Sloper offers a summer full of fun, adventure and tradition in four, two-week sessions running from June 29 to Aug. 21, as well as a one-week preview from June 22 to June 26. The day camp program runs Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended camp care available if needed.

YMCA Camp Sloper serves children ages 3 to 15 years old. Bus transportation is provided for residents of Southington, Cheshire, Berlin/Kensington and New Britain. There is no bus transportation for Wanderers. Financial assistance is available for qualified families who live in Southington and Cheshire. Payment plans can also be arranged.

Those who cannot attend the April open house date will have other opportunities on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Wednesday, June 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For directions to YMCA Camp Sloper or for more information, please visit our website at www.ymcacampsloper.org or call (860) 621-8194.
