It’s prom dress shopping season, and a Southington resident opened her new local business just in time. Bangle is a new dress boutique located at 48 North Main Street on Route 10 just recently opened last month, just in time for the prom rush.

“I was eager to open for the prom season,” said Bangle owner Christina Romano. “We worked hard over the fall to open in time.”

The store also carries dresses for all special occasions and events, as well as accessories.

“I wanted to open a boutique where the front of the store has everyday accessories like hats, pursues, jewelry, but the back of the store has all kinds of dresses for any special occasion,” said Romano. “

In addition to prom dresses, Bangle carries cocktail dresses, mother of the bride dresses, pageant dresses, homecoming dresses, and ball gowns.

“I just wanted to open a place in town where a woman can come when she needs a gown to wear or just to find that special dress,” said Romano.

Bangle also has a selection of rhinestone jewelry and shoes to accessorize any dress.

“I pretty much have anything you would need for a special occasion,” said Romano.

The price range of dresses at this store is between $100 and $400.

“I really try to keep it reasonable,” said Romano. “I found that a lot of prom girls are spending a lot of money, so I wanted to give a wide price range for people who want to stay on a budget but also cater to those who want to spend more.”

Romano’s retail experience working for her family’s shop as a teenager led her to want to open her own business.

“I was raised in retail,” said Romano. “We had a bridal store, and I always worked alongside my mother. Retail is in my blood.”

In addition to her strong family ties in owning a retail business, Romano is tied to Southington as well

“I wanted to offer a place for people to get a gown in town without having to go to the mall,” said Romano. “It’s somewhere women can come instead of just going out to dinner. They can go shopping. I grew up in Southington, and I feel great having a business in the heart of downtown.”

Romano said that she has already received positive feedback from residents and that people seem excited to have a dress shop in town.

Bangle is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 pm; Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
