The United Way of Southington has announced its 2015 Southington Stars. Three local residents, nominated and selected by the Southington community, will be honored for their outstanding community service at the United Way annual dinner on Thursday, March 19 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
Lifelong Southington resident Gary Saucier will be recognized for his service on several town committees, as well as his contributions to Southington Community Services, the Cyber Knights FIRST Robotics Team, and the Lincoln Technical Institute Advisory Board, among other organizations.
Rachel Wache will be honored for her volunteerism on town committees and at local community events, as well as her leadership in several local civic organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary, STEPS Advisory Board, and The Apple Valley-Southington Chapter of AARP.
As the founder and owner of Smokin’ with Chris restaurant, Chris Conlan has generously contributed his time and specialty food items to support the Southington Chamber of Commerce, Southington High School Marching Band, Southington United Way, and numerous other non-profit groups throughout Connecticut.
The United Way of Southington established the Southington Stars Award to honor outstanding community-minded volunteers that that live or work in Southington. Nominations are made by Southington residents and award recipients are chosen by a team of community leaders. The 2015 Southington Stars will be honored at the March 19 dinner.
Tickets for the dinner and auction are $75 per person or $700 for a table of ten. Reservations must be made by March 12 by contacting the United Way of Southington at (860) 628-4565. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome and silent auction. The dinner is scheduled for 6:30 pm followed by the live auction and awards ceremony.
