The Southington Fire Department (SFD) announced their newest full-time fire fighter. On Monday, Feb. 23, Jasen Zarcone, 29, was sworn in at the Town Clerk’s office.
Before arriving at Southington, Zarcone was a member of the Brookfield Fire Department, Candlewood Company and served there since 2009. In the spring of 2013, Zarcone graduated from the Connecticut Fire Academy’s Recruit Fire Fighter program. He attended Class 51 of the 14 week academy as a member of Brookfield FD.
Southington requires all new career fire fighters to graduate from this intense training program prior to being assigned to regular fire-fighting duties. The Board of Fire Commissioners approved Zarcone’s hiring at their Jan. 7 meeting.
“I’m excited about working for Southington,” Zarcone said in an SFD press release, “and I look forward to meeting the people and the community.”
Zarcone was hired to replace the vacancy created by Captain William Higgins’ retirement on Feb. 20.
