A group of friends is hosting a collective 50th birthday bash for anyone 50 and over at the Aqua Turf club on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Mary Dowler, D’Agostino and Kathy Fuley decided to celebrate this milestone with others in their age group, and a disco party seemed appropriate.
“We’re all from Southington,” said Dowler. “We’ve all had some big life events that we’ve come through and we’ve decided to throw a party.”
The “50 aged to perfection” party is going to be held at the Aqua Turf Club on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m., and it’s open to anyone who would like to come, regardless of their age. There is going to be drinks like wine and beer, dinner stations, pastries, and coffee.
Tickets are $50 per person, and all of the proceeds are going to the Southington Community Services.
“It’s a good opportunity to give back to the town,” said Dowler. “There are a lot of great people in town that still want to give back, and this is a fun way to do it.”
The event has “disco 70s” and “big hair 80s” as the theme. Guests can enjoy 1970s and 1980s music and take pictures in a photo booth.
“We were born in ’65, so we grew up with all the 70s and 80s music, and we want to go back to the music of 70s and 80s—the big hair and everything,” said Dowler. “We’re going back to the days of our youth.”
Dowler said that her recent class of ’83 reunion had a great turnout, and she’s been reaching out to as many people as possible to attend the event.
A couple weeks ago, Dowler said they already had 140 to 150 people confirming their attendance for the event. She said there are some people who will make the trip from other states to attend the event.
“We can all say happy birthday rather than saying it in a text or on Facebook we can do it in person,” said Dowler. “It’s a celebration to say look at how far we’ve made it and hopefully we have 50 more years to go.”
