Still reeling from their first major injury of the season, things haven’t gotten any easier for the Lady Knights.
In the days leading up to the season opener, Southington was hit with the second major injury to a projected starter. Senior co-captain Nicole Fischer suffered a fractured leg, and will miss the season opener. With the earlier injury to Janelle Wadolowski, the Lady Knights have already lost two of their starting five.
“It’s a really tough loss, but there’s not much we can do,” Forgione said. “This is a resilient group. They’re not going to quit, and we’re going to continue to give it our all every game.”
Fischer averaged over 27 minutes per game last winter as a junior. Fischer scored 169 points with 64 rebounds, and she converted 17 shots from three point range. On defense, she anchored the Knights with 29 steals and four blocks.
