My Little Rascals Daycare Center has just held its ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. Owner Carla Russo has been working in daycare for several years and has two young daughters of her own with her husband.
The center is located on 445 North Main St. near Stop and Shop, directly next to Center Stage Dance School.
Russo said what makes My Little Rascals different is that it’s a smaller daycare environment with one teacher assigned to every four children.
“Our school is small, but we wanted to keep it on the smaller side so that we have more interaction between staff and a child instead of being a huge school,” said Russo.
She said her experience sending her daughters to daycare made her want to provide a closer knit environment.
“I felt sometimes when I was dropping them off that there were just so many kids and they kind of got lost in the middle of it,” said Russo. “We can pay more attention to the child instead of having ten babies in a classroom with one teacher.”
The school provides daycare for babies as young as 6 weeks old up to 4 year olds. There is an infant room, a 2-year-old room, a 3-year-old room, and a room for 4-year-olds.
According to Russo, My Little Rascals Daycare Center currently has three full-time teachers and two more available when needed.
“As enrollment starts picking up then we’ll hire more staff,” said Russo.
Not only does the center provide more interaction with teachers, Russo also said there will be Music and Movement classes once a month for the children.
Another exciting element the center is offering is having Susie Q, a clown, come to read Mother Goose nursery stories once a month.
Russo said the center will collaborate with Center Stage Dance School next door for anyone who wants to sign their child up for dance classes. Staff from the daycare will walk the children over to the studio and stay there with them during the class.
According to Russo, she is also planning to host a parents’ night once a month, so that all of the parents can get to know each other. Parents of the school also will be able to get some babysitting on Saturday and Sundays for just $20 per child.
“If they want to go out to dinner with their husband and they want leave their child with somebody that knows them, they can just drop them off here,” said Russo.
