Cop check clears local merchants

On Thursday, Nov. 20, the Southington Police Dept Special Investigations Unit conducted undercover compliance checks at approximately 24 convenience stores and gas stations within the Town of Southington. The investigation was based on information provided by the Southington S.T.E.P.S. program.

The purpose of these checks was to uncover sales of synthetic cannabis products like K-2 Spice or Cloud 9. The sale and/or possession of these products is banned under Town Ordinance 13-2 (a).

The police said that all of the stores in the review were found to be in compliance with the town ordinance. No illicit products were available for sale to the undercover officer.
