State Representative Joe Aresimowicz (D- Berlin/Southington) has been re-elected as Majority Leader of the Connecticut House of Representatives by the Democratic Caucus. The Majority Leader is the second-ranking official in the House of Representatives and serves as the leading spokesperson in floor debate.
“It is a great honor to be chosen by my colleagues to continue to serve as their Majority Leader,” said Aresimowicz in a press release from his office. “I have really enjoyed serving these past two years and I look forward to working with the entire legislature to create more jobs in our state and to improve the safety and health of all our residents.”
State Representative Joe Aresimowicz was first elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2004 to represent the 30th Assembly District, which includes Berlin and Southington. Following his re-election to a fifth term in 2012, his colleagues elected him as their Majority Leader for the 2013-2014 legislative sessions, where he served alongside Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey.
“I congratulate Rep. Aresimowicz on his well-deserved re-election as our House Majority Leader,” said Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) in Aresimowicz’s press release. “Joe is a tried and true leader, whose proven ability to help build our legislative agenda and successfully move it through the General Assembly has earned him the respect of every member of our caucus. I look forward to partnering with Joe again as we work together to help Connecticut keep moving.”
Of the selection of new leaders, Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a press release: “I want to congratulate the leadership of all four caucuses on their selections, and in particular those who are being designated to serve for their first time in these principal roles, including Senate President-Elect Martin Looney, Senate Majority Leader-Elect Bob Duff, Senate Minority Leader-Elect Len Fasano, and House Minority Leader-Elect Themis Klarides. I also look forward to working closely again with Speaker Brendan Sharkey and House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz.
“As each of us prepare to begin new respective terms in office at the start of the upcoming year, I’m feeling very optimistic about what we can accomplish for the people who’ve elected us. Working as partners, we can continue strengthening our state, fostering growth and generating a prosperous Connecticut.”
