Plantsville’s The Sawtelles perform in benefit Saturday

A Common Ground Community Center For Art and Dance is proud to welcome The Sawtelles, from Plantsville, as the featured performers at its monthly benefit coffeehouse on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Husband and wife duo the Sawtelles are a balance of four elements, alternate-tuned guitar, stand-up drum kit and two voices. Sparse but intricately arranged pop that is as lush as it is threadbare makes what is played as important as what isn’t, explained a press release from A Common Ground. Their strict DiY philosophy aligns them more with the hand painted Sun Ra LPs of 1950s and 60s then it does with those striving for mainstream commercial success, said the press release.

Proceeds from this month’s benefit will go to Danbury Arts in Action, an organization providing arts training for at-risk youth. The Sawtelles set will be preceded by an open mic (Sign-up at 7 p.m.). Admission to this event is by free-will donation and refreshments will be offered for purchase. Doors will open at 7p.m.

A Common Ground is located a short walk from the bus and train stations at 33 Crosby Street in downtown Danbury.
