Carousel Museum opens up to fun and talent Sept. 27

On Saturday, Sept. 27, The New England Carousel Museum and Bristol Center for Arts and Culture opens its doors to celebrate Bristol fun and talent on the first Saturday of the Bristol Mum Festival.
Several years ago, a press release from the museum explained, the executive director, Louise DeMars and the Board of Directors of the museum believed that there should be a formal acknowledgement of the talent and dedication of individuals and groups that promoted and maintained the wealth of talent in the arts, culture and entertainment of Bristol. Thus the ACE AWARD was created.
In past years, there was a more formal dinner dance in the evening to celebrate the award winners usually held in May. This year, the decision was made to broaden the celebration to include a daytime event for children and families as well as the dinner dance in the evening.
The daytime event is Celebrate Bristol/Family Fun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to free admission to all floors of the museum, there will be dance exhibitions of students of local dance studios scheduled with their own program, carousel rides, face painting, arts and crafts and much more. What is particularly appealing is that the museum on 95 Riverside Avenue is one block from Bristol Mum Festival activities being held 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Memorial Boulevard, Bristol.
This will be followed by Celebrate Bristol/ ACE Awards (Art, Culture and Entertainment) evening event from 7 to 11 p.m. This year’s recipients of the award are Sally Kish, a long time resident of Bristol and pianist, and The Bristol Old Tyme Fiddler’s Club, a popular group that is 70-plus members strong. A wine and scotch tasting, buffet dinner, and dancing in the upstairs ballroom will fill out the evening before and after the award presentation. A price of $25 per person covers the very full evening of entertainment, BYOB, reservations recommended.
