The annual Taste of Southington is set to return for another helping.
Now in its 13th year, the event is held on the grounds of the Barnes Museum. The event is sponsored by TD Bank and begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
“People have considered this another annual event that they attend,” Barnes Museum curator and Taste of Southington coordinator Marie Secondo said of the event’s longevity. “We’ve come along with the other events in town. It is phenomenal how people come out.”
The event allows people to sample food from local restaurants. There is no fee to enter the event, but the restaurants do charge a minimal fee for the food.
This year’s 12 participating restaurants include  C. C. Carvers, Christina’s Gourmet Cookies, Cork & Brew, Machiavelli’s,  Moe’s Southwest Grill, Napoli Café Deli, Namaste India, Paul Gregory’s Bistro, Saint’s Restaurant & Catering, Salsa’s Southwest Grill, Sixpence Pie Company, and Smokin’ with Chris.
Secondo said the restaurants provide a little bit of something for everyone and will allow people to pick and choose what they would like to eat. She noted that the restaurants line up to be part of the event and added that many of the restaurants come back year after year.
Salsa’s Southwest Grill on Meriden Avenue is a newcomer to the event this year. Opened this past February, owner Leon Lopez said he is looking forward to the event.
“This is my first time doing something like this,”he said. “I’m very excited.”
Connecticut native singer and songwriter Miss Malorie LeoGrande is providing the entertainment for the evening.  She has performed professionally since the age of 8. She has won the statewide Connecticut Idol competition. She will sing musical selections from classic, soul, R&B and jazz. LeoGrande currently fronts two New York City bands and owns her own voice studio.
The museum will be open for free tours all evening, and will offer free face painting, balloon animals, and glitter tattoos for the children–  provided by Talulabelle & Company of Puttin’ on the Ritz.
The Taste of Southington is also held in conjunction with the town’s Music on the Green series. The Eddie Forman Orchestra, sponsored by the Southington Polish Falcon Nest 307, is slated for the evening. The music begins at 7 p.m. There also will be the weekly classic auto show.
The Taste of Southington brings out the guests. Secondo said  last year, people began staking out their spots earlier in the day.
“It shows me people are looking forward to the event,” Secondo said.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the museum grounds. However, there will be plenty of tables and chairs under giant tents as well.
The rain date for the event is Thursday, Aug. 7. For more information on Taste of Southington, visit southingtonlibrary.org or call the Barnes Museum at 860-628-5426.
