Moose sighting in Southington

By Ed Harris

A moose was spotted wandering around by the high school last Thursday, a few hours prior to graduation.

Residents called police, reporting sightings on Loper and Flanders Streets during the early afternoon hours. The moose was sighted trying to cross Queen Street by Flanders later in the evening. The animal was spooked and ran into the nearby cemetery.

“[There were] no issues reported,” said Police Spokesman Sgt. Jeff Dobratz. “Traffic slowed down.”

Dobratz said officials were unsure where the moose wandered off to. Residents stopped reported sightings last Friday.

This is the second moose sighting in town in a little over a month and a half. Dobratz said there was a moose sighting on West Street, near Curtis Street on April 14.Moose
