Town set to recognize Memorial Day with parade and services

Officials have released the information regarding the schedule of memorial services and the annual parade in honor of Memorial Day, Monday, May 26
The American Legion, Kiltonic Post 72, will be conducting Memorial services at the following locations in Southington on the morning of May 26:  Panthorn Park at 7:45 a.m., Quinnipiac Cemetery at 8 a.m., Recreation Park at 8:20 a.m., South End Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. and Immaculate Cemetery at 8:35 a.m.
The Marine Corp. League will conduct memorial services at the following locations in Southington on the morning of May 26: Memorial Park at 7:30 a.m., Oak Hill Cemetery at 7:45 a.m., Holy Trinity Cemetery at 8:05 a.m., West Street Cemetery at 8:15 a.m. and St. Thomas Cemetery at 8:35 a.m.
The veteran organizations from Southington will hold a joint Flag raising ceremony at the Southington Care Center at 8:45 a.m.

Participants of this year’s annual Memorial Day Parade are asked to form at Derynoski Elementary School’s lower parking lot on Eden Ave., between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Step off is at 10:30 a.m.
The parade will take the following route: entering Eden Ave., proceeding west to Liberty St., right (north), on to Liberty St., proceeding through the intersection at Columbus Ave., continuing onto the intersection  at Center St., right (east, against traffic) onto Center St., proceeding to the town green, again turning right onto Apple Way passing Post-72, continuing to Columbus Ave., making the final right hand turn (east) on to Columbus Ave., where the participating school bands, civic organizations and local groups will disband and disperse.
A ceremony honoring aeterans will be held immediately following the parade in front of the American Legion home, at 64 Main St. Memorial Day (35)
