Girl Scouts camp offers summer activities

May 8, 2014

CampCarlson has a variety of fun and challenging activities like nature exploration, hiking, and canoeing for all girls in grades K-12.

Camp programs also include swimming, arts and crafts, games, cookouts and more. Join the excitement participating with other girls in archery activities. A variety of one and two week sessions are offered between June 30 and Aug. 8. Tracy Malootian is a returning camp director. Breakfast bunch with drop off as early as 7 a.m. is also available.

CampCarlson is located in Bristol on 38 acres at the top of SouthMountain, overlooking Bristol and the BerkshireMountains. A swimming pool, play field, arts and crafts center, and an amphitheater are located in the woodlands of camp. The camp also offers older girl leadership programming and apprentice programs for girls who are ready for more leadership activities and would like to become future camp counselors.

Several studies, including one by the American Camp Association, suggest that a stay at summer camp typically benefits children by helping them become more confident and experience increased self-esteem; develop social skills; become more independent, showing leadership qualities; and become more adventurous in trying new things. CampCarlson is American Camp Association accredited and licensed by the State of Connecticut to ensure the well-being of all campers.

Girls don’t have to be Girl Scouts. Programs are filling fast so parents are encouraged to sign their girls up today. A limited number of summer camp employment opportunities are available.
