Polls don’t come out until the middle of the week, but Lincoln fans were already wondering if this could be the week that the local team would finally break into the top 10.
The Wildcats faced just one opponent this week, but the win over Northern Essex CC pushed their current win streak to 11 games. At 19-5, Lincoln is the top ranked team in the conference. They are the top ranked team in the region.
Last week, the NJCAA polls had the Wildcats ranked 11th in the nation. Will this be the week that they jump into the top 10?
Northern Essex CC was the Wildcat’s latest victim. On Saturday, Feb. 15, the team traveled to Haverhill, Mass. to push their season record win total to 19 games.
Jalen David led the way with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Chris Austin added 11 points with a trio of three pointers, five assists, and five steals. Jordan Taylor collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
Lincoln raced out to a 33-25 lead at the break and held on for a three point win.
Colin Collins paced the Knights’ second half comeback with four three pointers and 16 points. ryan Grant finished with 14 points and 12 assists. Peterson Morency and Parker Rogers added 12 points apiece, but nobody else managed more than one basket as the Wildcats held on for the win.
Lincoln has three more regular season contests before taking on the postseason. Tbhis wee, they’ll face Roxbury Community College (9-14) on Tuesday and Bristol Community College (15-8) on Thursday.
The final contest will be against Gateway CC (10-15) on Monday, Feb. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Courtside in Harwinton.
