Driver involved in single car accident in late January charged with DUI

Southington Police have charged the driver involved in a January 25 single car accident that led to the operator and three passengers being transported to the hospital with drinking and driving.

On January 25, police were called to a single car accident on Curtiss Street, involving a car that collided with the front steps of a home on the street.

According to an investigation, Corey Mitchell, 19, of Southington, was operating a Pontiac Grand Prix in a southerly direction on Curtiss Street.  Mitchell failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Hart Street. Mitchell’s vehicle continued in a southerly direction, entered the property of 79 Curtiss St. and came to rest after striking the home in the area of the front steps.

As a result of the collision, Mitchell and his three juvenile passengers were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. All the parties involved in the collision were treated and released from the area hospitals.

Mitchell was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to obey a stop sign and possession of alcohol by a minor. Bond was set at $20,000 with a March 3 court date.
