Competitive Resources Inc. (CRI) recently was awarded a contract to offer the Home Energy Solutions-Income Eligible program (HES-IE) statewide to Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) customers who meet specific income criteria. In addition, CRI will continue to offer this service to income-eligible customers of The United Illuminating Company (UI).
The HES program, which is supported by Energize Connecticut, helps to reduce home energy bills by making homes more energy efficient. The HES-IE is a free service for homeowners and renters whose household has a combined gross annual income that is at or below 60 percent of the state median income.
A HES-IE home energy assessment provides homeowners and renters with services and installed products that will help make homes more energy efficient and lower their energy bills. During the home energy assessment, CRI’s utility-certified technicians will make energy saving improvements that include identifying and sealing air leaks and drafts, installing energy efficient light bulbs and water-saving devices, and analyzing appliances and insulation. In addition, income eligible households may qualify for insulation and energy efficient appliances.
CL&P and UI customers can determine eligibility for the HES-IE program and schedule an appointment by calling 1-888-403-3500. CRI, which is based in Wallingford, Conn., is an authorized Home Energy Solutions provider.
Households that do not qualify for the free HES service can have a home energy assessment done for a co-pay of $75 for customers who heat with electricity or natural gas and $99 for customers who heat with oil or propane. CL&P and UI must approve all applications and the offer is subject to the availability of funding from the Energy Efficiency Fund.
