The Art League of New Britain will feature a show, “2014 Working from the Figure,” from Feb. 7 to March 2. The show includes drawing, watercolor, easel painting, photographs, digital work, sculpture and mixed media that are inspired from or address the human figure in some aspect. The Juror will be Grier de Langley Torrence, who is an artist, painter, and the Arts Department Head and Visual Arts Director of Miss Porter’s School in Farmington.
There will be an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Prizes for the show are $200 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place.
Artists must bring their entries to the Art League building at 30 Cedar St. in New Britain on the following dates: Thursday, Jan. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Also you can call (860) 877-3839 for special arrangements. There are forms to fill out for the entries.
Entry fees are $20 for members of the Art League ($30 for non-members) for the first piece and $5 for members ($10 for non-members) for each other entry. Entries are not to exceed 96 inches framed width for total number of entries. Fees are nonrefundable. All pieces must remain on display until the show closes; that includes all pieces sold.
Entries should be ready for display, framed/matted, wired for hanging, and should have information about the artist and piece on the back. Also you can include some narrative on you and your work on a 2 by 4 inch label placed on your work, something relating to your work or your website.
The Art League of New Britain will charge Connecticut sales tax on all pieces sold and will take a 30% commission on all pieces sold.
