Program on internet safety to be offered to parents Feb. 27

The Plainville Coalition for Positive Youth Development will host a program entitled “Parenting in the Digital Age” a free workshop for Plainville parents presented by Scott Driscoll / Internet Safety Concepts on Thursday, Feb. 27 in the Middle School of Plainville Ventrelli Auditorium, 150 Northwest Dr.. Check-in for the program will begin at 6:15 p.m.; the program will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. including a question and answer segment.

The goal of the program, which is free of charge, is to share information with local parents and caregivers about good “digital citizenship” for youth, highlighting information on all aspects of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instragram, Snapchat and more.

“It is critically important for parents to be aware of their children’s on –line activities. Today’s technology enables us to communicate instantly with others near and far which can be wonderful, but it also lends itself to misuse. Children as young as 9 are engaging in bullying –type behaviors, taking and sending inappropriate photos, communicating with complete strangers and many other potentially harmful behaviors. This workshop is not to be missed as it will educate parents about the kinds of activities that many young people are involved with whileusing computers, tablets, cell phones and game systems,” said Coalition Co-chair Roberta Brown in a press release.

Babysitting will be provided during the program (RSVP needed for babysitting) and light refreshments will be served. All attendees will be entered into a raffle for door prizes.
