The Southington YMCA’s annual Teen Dodgeball Tournament returns for another throw this weekend.
The tournament, now in its fourth year, is broken up into two divisions, sixth and seventh grade and eighth and ninth grade. There is a maximum of 16 teams per division.
“We had it fill every year” said tournament organizers Steve Silva. “There’s [usually] a waiting list.”
Silva said dodgeball was a timeless game that is still popular, even though some schools are getting rid of it. Silva went on to say that the YMCA used foam balls that acted like the typical balls used in dodgeball, to help increase safety.
“It is far safer,” Silva said.
The tournament is slated for Sunday, Jan. 26 at the YMCA. The cost of participating is $35 per team, with a maximum of six players per team required.
The sixth and seventh grade division begins at noon and the eighth and ninth grade division starts at 2:30 p.m.
The top teams in each division will win a trophy and participants do not have to be YMCA members. Registration forms are available at the front desk at the YMCA.
