Sydney West, a former Southington resident, now Vernon resident, won the Miss Connecticut Teen USA crown on Sunday afternoon in Stamford.

The pageant, which is part of the Donald Trump brand of pageants that includes Miss USA and Miss Universe, was whittled down to the top 10 on Sunday after a day of preliminary competition in swimsuit and evening gown categories. The contestants also competed in private interview.

West beat out 20-plus other teens for the crown.

The new Miss Connecticut USA also was crowned. Desiree Perez took that honor. She succeeds last year’s Miss Connecticut USA, Erin Brady, who went on to win Miss USA and then finish in the top 10 at Miss Universe in Moscow earlier this month.

Both West and Perez head onto the national competitions as Connecticut’s representatives.
