Downtown Plantsville is going to get a little spooky later this month.
The Village of Plantsville Association and the Southington Parks and Recreation Department are cosponsoring the 17th annual Halloween in Plantsville on Thursday, Oct. 24 (with a rain date Oct. 25) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be wonderful,” said Dolores Fanelli, chair of the 12 member committee that is planning the event. “It’s a safe Halloween event for children.”
The event will take place from the Plantsville Pharmacy to Summer Street. Police will block off the road in this area for the event.
Planned activities include clowns, a magician, a costume parade with prizes and a scary Halloween theme at the Plantsville Firehouse. Nearby businesses will also take part in the festivities.
Children ages 1-12 can also participate in a painted pumpkin contest. Participants need to bring their pumpkin to the Plantsville green on Thursday, Oct. 24, prior to the event’s kickoff at 5:30 p.m. The participants name and age must be listed on the bottom of the pumpkin. Participants must be present to win.
Fanelli said the Halloween event normally brings out a crowd. She estimated that about 3,000 people attended the event last year.
“More people come to this than Christmas in the Village,” she said.
