The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission recently appointed Matthew Reimondo, a retired police chief of East Hampton, to the position of zoning enforcement officer.
Town Manager Garry Brumback and members of the Town Council welcomed Reimondo during a recent council meeting, applauding his long-time experiences in law enforcement. Reimondo served as police sergeant for nine years, before becoming police chief in 1998.
John Weichsel, the first town manager of Southington for 44 years prior to his death earlier this year, also worked in East Hampton for a short time as a town manager.
Reimondo said he looks forward to providing an extra set of hands to the Southington community.
“I saw the opportunity as another challenge,” Reimondo said. “I thought I had something left to give back to the community.”
Brumback said he has high expectations for Reimondo, considering his past experiences in law enforcement.
“I am very happy,” Brumback said. “Reimondo has 27 years in policing background—that is going to bring unique skills.”
Mike DelSanto, the chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, said he is excited to have Reimondo on the team.
“I am relieved the zoning enforcement officer position has been filled so Dave [Lavallee] can go back to concentrating his efforts on the Town Planner position,” DelSanto said.
