Plainville firefighter arrested on larceny charges

A Plainville volunteer firefighter was arrested by the Southington Police Department on larceny charges.

On Monday, June 24, an arrest warrant was issued for Stephen Chapman, of 45 Park St. in Plainville. Chapman, a Southington Police Department emergency dispatcher, turned himself in on Thursday, June 27.

Chapman was charged with four counts of second degree larceny. He was released on a $500 bond with a July 8 court date.

The warrant application indicates that on six different occasions, between August of 2008 and April of 2013, Chapman called in sick for his dispatcher duties and subsequently responded to eight Plainville Fire Department calls for service during the same time frame he was on paid sick leave. Chapman also received compensation from Plainville for his response to the Plainville Fire Department calls for service.

Chapman is currently on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Investigation.
