“Fiddler on the Roof,” a gem from Broadway’s Golden Age of musicals, is a celebration of life and its challenges. Trying to balance life – like a fiddler on a roof – Tevye attempts to hold onto his traditions despite the sweeping social change that is threatening his town’s very existence.

The production is directed by Kris Bates with music direction by Ed Rosenblatt. Rosenblatt’s musicians include Bill D’Andrea, Nicole Chubet, Tim and Ben Johnson, Sue Meissner, Rich Santanella, Isabella DiFusco, Ralph Bushnell, and Adam Arcano. The Steeple Players creative team also includes choreography by Merriah Currao, artistic direction by Lori Holm, and technical direction by Rich McCarty.

Fiddler on the Roof first appeared on Broadway in 1964 and swept the Tony’s with nine “Best” awards including Best Musical for a score that features “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “Do You Love Me.” The film adaptation was released in 1971 and scored three Oscars including Best Score Adaptation for John Williams. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Picture.

A portion of the proceeds from the “Fiddler on the Roof” production will go to support the tuition for the Tanglewood Summer Music Festival at BostonUniversity for a young ‘Fiddler’- Southington’s violinist Jacob Dziubek who played in the pit for the 2011 production of Sound of Music.
